Former Chief Executive, Hong Kong Consumer Council
Ms. Connie LAU, graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, is the Chairperson of the International Advisory Group of Experts on Consumer Protection of UNCTAD, United Nation. Ms Lau was also the former Chief Executive of Hong Kong Consumer Council (HKCC), a statutory body set up by the Government of Hong Kong to protect and promote the interests of consumers.
Ms. LAU has wealth of experience and expertise in consumer protection and under her leadership, HKCC operates a comprehensive service ranging from research and testing to information provision and education, consumer complaint resolution to advocacy in all areas of concern including legislative improvement and fair market competition. Ms. LAU has been speaker at various international conferences and seminars organized by international bodies such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), World Economic Forum (WEF) and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Ms. LAU is active in public service. She is currently the Director of HK Financial Disputes Resolution Centre, Member of Financial Reporting Council, Steering Committee on Review of the Regulation of Private Healthcare Facilities; Consultative Group on Health Protection Scheme of Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee; Steering Committee on Strategic Review on Healthcare Manpower Planning and Professional Development; and Business Studies Advisory Board of Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education.
In 2011, Ms. LAU was awarded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to be the honoree of the Beta Gamma Sigma HKUST Chapter, an award to outstanding community leaders in recognition of their significant achievements as an excellent role model for the next generation leaders in the industry, the community, and the academia. In the same year, Ms. LAU was appointed by the Chief Executive of HKSAR as unofficial Justice of the Peace.
